2017 Musher Bios
CLAYTON PERRY is a 57 year old home center owner from Power, Montana, operating T.S.A. Kennel, been mushing for 6 years, runs Alaskan Huskies – Doug Swingley background, has raced the Race to the Sky 100 (third place in 2014), and recently won the Eagle Cap 100, in the lead will be Smoke and Ash. He enjoys skiing, horse packing and diving in his spare time, this is his third Race to the Sky and his second 300 mile Race to the Sky.
MARK STAMM is a 59 year old yacht repairman from Riverside, Washington. He has been running Alaskan huskies since 1976 and operates Black Thunder Kennels. In the lead will be Elmly and Blaze. He has run the Yukon Quest and Iditarod and has been running Race to the Sky whenever possible since 1987, taking first place in 2007 and 2009.
SPENCER BRUGGEMAN is a 15 year old student from Great Falls, Montana. He has raced the 100 mile junior race four times and helps with the family kennel, Skinny Leg Sleddogs. This is his first 300 mile Race to the Sky. He was the one who got his dad, Brett, interested in running sled dogs and they train all season together. He is sponsored by his mom and dad, Suzette and Brett Bruggeman.
BRETT BRUGGEMAN is a 46 year old dentist/dog musher from Great Falls, Montana. His family operates Skinny Leg Sleddogs and has been mushing for 5 years. In the lead will be Scabs and Shout and this is his fifth Race to the Sky. He won the 2016 Eagle Cap Extreme 200 with his Alaskan huskies. In his spare time he enjoys horses and falconry.
NEAL BOWLEN is a 41 year old heavy equipment operator from Park City, Utah. He has been racing for three years and operates Pawsatch Kennel with his wife Michelle and children Jake, Ava and Charlie. He races Seppala Siberian Huskies and just finished the Eagle Cap Extreme. In the lead will be Patches, Galena, Nicolai and Sasha. In his spare time, he enjoys skiing and music. He is sponsored by Redelf Family, Summit County Sheriff’s Department and Wolff Excavation.
LAURIE WARREN is a 53 year old muletrainer from Council, Idaho. She got started helping her sons run teams. She has been mushing for 6 years and has won the 2015 and 2016 Best Cared for Team Award for Race to the Sky 100, she also took 4th place in the Eagle Cap Extreme 200 last month. This is her fourth Race to the Sky. In the lead will be Maya, Conman, Athena and Bessie.
100 Mile Junior
MEG CONKLIN is a 13 year old student from Boise, Idaho. She has been mushing for 2 years. She got started when she followed the Iditarod, met Trent Herbst on the trail and he invited her to run dogs in Idaho. She finished the West Yellowstone Rodeo Run 6 dog in second place and ran the Darby Dog Derby as well. She will be running dogs from the Herbst Kennel. This is her first Race to the Sky Junior. KALI HERBST is a 14 year old student from Ketchum, Idaho. Her dad is Iditarod veteran, Trent Herbst. She has been mushing since she was three years old. In her spare time, she enjoys track, orchestra, journalism, bike touring, playing the violin, pack rafting and writing. This is her first 100 Mile Junior Race to the Sky. She is sponsored by her Mom and Dad, Grandpa and Grandma, Al and Linda Chamberlain, Tim Semones, the Conklins and the gang in Fairfield.
100 Mile Adult
ROY ETNIRE, is a 61 year old millwright from Seeley Lake, Montana. He operates Mystik North Sleddogs and has been mushing for eight years. He won the 2014 Eagle Cap 100, and the Race to the Sky 100 in 2013 and 2014 and also the 2014 Best Cared for Team Award at Race to the Sky. In the lead will be Sidney, Gondor and Chattie Kathy. Roy runs Alaskan huskies, Cindy Gallea background.
STEVE RIGGS, is a 61 year old auto parts salesman from Olney, Montana. He has a small kennel of Alaskan huskies and has been a dog musher for 22 years. In the lead will be Fonzie and Willow. He got started when he purchased a dogsled from a newspaper ad and has been hooked ever since. He has run many races across the Pacific Northwest and this is his sixth Race to the Sky, finishing in third place in 2013.
STEVE MADSEN is a 52 year old attorney from Cougar, Washington. He operates a kennel of Alaskan huskies and has been dog mushing for 25 years. He has run 8 Race to the Sky races and ran the 2004 Iditarod. In the lead will be Carli and Colors.
JEFF ADKINS is a 24 year old fence builder from Sand Coulee, Montana. He got started racing by his grandpa, Terry Adkins and dad, Chris Adkins. He has been dog mushing for 19 years and will be racing husky/hound crosses. In the lead will be Drake and Garrett. This is his first Race to the Sky.
CHRIS ADKINS is a 48 year old plumbing tech from Sand Coulee, Montana. He got started racing by his dad, Terry Adkins and has been mushing for 44 years. He races Alaskan huskies/hound crosses. He is no stranger to Race to the Sky, finishing from second place to ninth place and receiving the Sportsmanship Award and Best Cared for Team Awards. In the lead will be Attla, Pope, Sunday and Smith.
ADAM BUCH is a 41 year old teacher from Cranbrook, BC, Canada. He got started by rescuing two dogs from Judy Johnson in Lincoln and now races purebred Siberians. He has been mushing for 8 years and is running Race to the Sky in memory of his son, Noah, a dog musher in his own right. In the lead will be Ewok, Shooter and Yeti. This is his first Race to the Sky. Sponsors include Kim Stanley at Dog Power Sports, Brenda Birrell, Laurissa at Yetieska Siberians and Karen Ramstead of North Wapiti Siberians.
MAEVA WATERMAN is a 23 year old craft brewer from Bozeman, Montana. She has been mushing 4 years and runs Alaskan huskies. She got started running tours for Frank Teasley in Wyoming. She just recently finished the Eagle Cap Extreme and will be running dogs from Clayton Perry’s and Brett Bruggeman’s kennels. In the lead will be Montana City and Lolo. This is her first Race to the Sky.
BINO FOWLER is a 46 year old sparky from Bend, Oregon. He operates Mishmash Alaskan Husky Kennel. He races Alaskan Huskies and finished the 2011 Race to the Sky in third place. In the lead will be Giddiup and Let’s Go!
DAVE BUSH is a 35 year old builder from Bend, Oregon. He has been mushing for 4 years and will be racing Alaskan huskies from Bino Fowler’s kennel. In the lead will be Waddle and Tali. He got his start as a neighbor of Bino Fowler’s. This is his first Race to the Sky 100.
LAURA DAUGEREAU is a 34 year old carpenter/builder and dog musher from Kingston, Washington, currently living in Stockett, Montana. She has been mushing for over 21 years. In the lead will be Daisy and Wily and she operates Night Runner Kennel. She has run Race tot the Sky 11 times, taking home 4 second place finishes in the 300 mile race, receiving the Best Cared for Team Award. Laura is sponsored by Cornerstone Home Services, Great Falls Vet Clinic and Redpaw Dog Food.
RICK LARSON is a 49 year old equipment operator from Sand Coulee, Montana. He has been mushing for 21 years. He will be running dogs from Night Runner Kennel. In the lead will be Sike and Brother. He won Race to the Sky 350 in 2010, finishing with all 12 starting dogs and ran last year’s 100.
JOSEPH CARSON is a 60 year old president of Dr. Carsons.com from Wasilla, Alaska. He has been running Alaskan huskies from Buser and Cotter lines for one year and is running dogs from Snowhook Kennel (Justin and Rebecca Savidis). In the lead will be Amy and Little. He got his start with sled dogs by working for years to improve pet health and has been involved in Iditarod for years. He has run the Quest 300 but this is his first Race to the Sky and he is sponsored by Dr. Carson’s Pet Food Supplements.
