2018 Mushers

300 mile race:

BRETT BRUGGEMAN is a 47 year old dentist/dog musher from Great Falls, Montana.  His family operates Skinny Leg Sled Dogs and has been mushing for 7 years.  In the lead will be Plugger and Shout and this is his sixth Race to the Sky.  He won the 2016 Eagle Cap Extreme 200 with his Alaskan huskies.  In his spare time, he enjoys horse packing, fishing and falconry. He is sponsored by Bruggeman Endodontics & Implants and Motofist.

MIRIAM OSREDKAR is a professional guide and dog trainer from Fairfield, Montana. She has been mushing for ten years. She has worked as a dogsledding guide in Skagway and Willow, Alaska, and in Jackson, Wyoming.  In 2014, she participated in the Nadzehda Hope Race in Russia and the 90th Anniversary Serum Run in2015. She also ran the 2016 Iditarod. In her spare time, she enjoys backpacking, kayaking, skiing and all outdoor activities. In the lead will be Colt and Marlin, running dogs from Skinny Legs Sled Dogs. This is her first Race to the Sky.

 

LAURIE WARREN is a 54 year old mule trainer from Council, Idaho. She got started handling and helping her sons, Garrett and Trevor train. That was seven years ago and they encouraged her to race. She won the 300 mile Race to the Sky in 2017. She received the 2015 and 2016 Best Cared for Team Award for Race to the Sky 100 and finished the Eagle Cap Extreme 2018 in third place. In the lead will be Conman, Athena, Maya and Bessie. This is her fifth Race to the Sky.

JOSI THYR is a 24 year old insurance agent from Cataldo, Idaho.  She has been mushing for ten years now racing Alaskan huskies out of her kennel, There and Back Again Sled Dogs.  She received the 2016 Best Cared for Team Award and got started with her pet husky pulled her on rollerblades.  In the lead will be Lollipop and Owl.  The Eagle Cap Extreme is the most exciting race she has run to date. She finished this year’s Eagle Cap Extreme in fourth place.

JESSIE ROYER is a 41 year old musher from Tabiona, Utah.  She has been mushing for 26 years and races Alaskan huskies from the J Team Kennel.  In 2008-2011, she was the highest placing female in Iditarod. She received the Rookie of the Year award at her first Iditarod in 2001 and consistently has finished in the top 20 and three times in the top 10.  She won Race to the Sky as a teen in 1994, the youngest musher to win the 500 mile race. She won the 2016 Race to the Sky and has raced the John Beargrease Marathon, the Wyoming Stage Stop, Iditarod, Canadian Challenge and Race to the Sky.

DYLAN HARRIS is a 27 year old dog musher from Tabiona, Utah. He has been mushing Alaskan huskies for four years running dogs from Skyrider Kennels. He ran the Wyoming Stage Stop 4 dog race as a junior musher in 2000 and raced the Canadian Open Sled Dog Race in 2014. In the lead will be Tumble, Lingo, Idon and Vegas. In his spare time he likes to hike, rock climb and train dogs. This is his first Race to the Sky.

DAMON RAMAKER is a 37 year old nurse from Fountain, Minnesota.  He has been mushing for five years and got started through Cindy Gallea.  In the lead will be Yentna, Gillette and Coffee.  He races Alaskan huskies.  This is his first Race to the Sky.

 

CINDY GALLEA is a nurse practitioner from Wykoff, Minnesota.  She has been mushing for thirty years and this is her fifth Race to the Sky. She has two second place finishes, in 1997 and in 1995, where she was just four minutes behind the first place finisher.  She has run Iditarod numerous times with her Alaskan huskies.  In the lead will be Casper, Doubleshot and Missoula.

 

RICK KATUCKI is a 64 year old retiree from Eagle, Idaho.  He has been mushing for over 20 years as a competitor and official.  He got his start skijoring with a rescue dog.  The most exciting race for him so far was the Copper Basin 2015.  He won the Best Kept Team Award for Eagle Cap Extreme, running it in 2007, 2009 and 2010.  In the lead will be Silver and Red.

 


100 Mile Junior

CHARMAYNE MORRISON is a 17 year old student from Polson, Montana.  She has been mushing for four years and has run the Darby Dog Derby, Eagle Cap Extreme and will run the 2018 Junior Iditarod.  She started with sled dogs as a middle school project.  Background of dogs, Swingley, Barnum and Mackey.   In the lead will be Akela, Soldier, Mozart and Mowgli.  This is her second Race to the Sky Jr. 100.

 

CHRISTINA GIBSON is a 17 year old homeschooler from Carlton, Washington.  She will be racing Alaskan huskies from her Whiteout Racing Kennel.  She became interested in dog mushing after watching the movie “Balto” when she was four years old.  She just finished the Eagle Cap Extreme 100 and has been mushing for four years.  In the lead will be Freckles, Nellie and Tatum.  This is her first Race to the Sky Junior 100.

 


100 Mile Adult

CLAYTON PERRY is a 57 year old home center owner from Power, Montana, operating T.S.A. Kennel, been mushing for 6 years and runs Alaskan Huskies, Doug Swingley background.  He has run the Race to the Sky 100 (third place in 2014), and finished in sixth place at the 2018 Eagle Cap Extreme. In the lead will be Smoke and Ash. He enjoys skiing, horse packing and diving in his spare time. This is his third Race to the Sky and his second 300 mile Race to the Sky.

 

MATT HAMEL is a 40 year old architect from Seattle, Washington.  He has a small kennel of Alaskan huskies fromStamm, Barron and Osmar  lines.  He was the 6 dog mid-distance champion at the Pacific Northwest Championships.  He has been mushing for 10 years.  in the lead will be Dorian, Compton and Blossom.  This is his first Race to the Sky.

 

TREVOR WARREN is a 21 year old biologist field technician from Council, Idaho.  He started running dogs when his older brother, Garrett,  started racing in 2010.  He runs Alaskan huskies out of the family kennel, Team Warren Kennel. Inca and Aztec will be in the lead.  When he isn’t mushing, he enjoys skiing, playing piano, geography, bird watching and eating falafel.  This is his third Race to the Sky.

 

ROY ETNIRE is a 62 year old millwright from Seeley Lake, Montana.  He operates Mystik North Sleddogs and has been mushing for eight years.  He won the 2014 Eagle Cap 100 and the Race to the Sky 100 in 2013 and 2014.  He also received the Best Cared for Team Award at Race to the Sky.  In the lead will be Sidney, Gondor and Chattie Kathy.  Roy runs Alaskan huskies.

 

 

STEVE MADSEN is a 53 year old attorney from Cougar, Washington. He races Alaskan huskies and has been dog mushing for 26 years. He  ran the 2004 and 2006 Iditarod with the 2006 Iditarod as his most exciting race ever run. In the lead will be Leopard and Scandal.  The background of his kennels is Swingley and Barron.  This is his ninth Race to the Sky.

 

REX MUMFORD is a 64 year old farmer from Huntsville, Utah.  He will be racing Alaskan huskies with Silver and Gifr in the lead.  He is a rookie this year to Race to the Sky but has handled for his son Bryce for five years and will be running dogs from Bryce’s kennel.

 

RICK LARSEN is a 52 year old construction worker from Belt, Montana. He has been mushing Alaskan huskies for almost 25 years. This year he willbe running dogs from Night Runner Kennel. In the lead will be Sike and Farce. He won the 2017 Race to the Sky 100 and the 350 mile race in 2010. He has also won the Can-Am and the UP 200 as well as running Iditarod, the Beargrease and the Canadian Challenge. In his spare time, he enjoys hunting, camping and all outdoor activities. This is his tenth Race to the Sky.

MADELINE RUBIDA is a forest service trail worker/dog handler from Tabiona, Utah. She has been mushing Alaskan huskies for two years and will be racing dogs from Skyrider Kennels. Three years ago, she went to Alaska to handle dogs and became interested in long distance races. She ran the Alpine Creek Excursion Sled Dog Race in 2015. She is a former volunteer for Race to the Sky. This is her first Race to the Sky.

SPENCER BRUGGEMAN is a 16 year old student from Great Falls, Montana.  He has raced the 100 mile junior race four times and helps with the family kennel, Skinny Leg Sled Dogs.  This is his second 300 mile Race to the Sky, finishing last year as the youngest teen to finish the 300.  In the lead will be Torch, Mojo and Pen. He was the one who got his dad, Brett, interested in running sled dogs and they train all season together.  When he isn’t dog mushing, he enjoys fly fishing and music. He is sponsored by his mom and dad, Suzette and Brett Bruggeman and Motofist.

SKYLER OLSEN is a 34 year old ranch manager from Tabiona, Utah.  He has been mushing for one year.  He got started in mushing through Gary Young and Young Living.  This will be his first Race to the Sky 300.
